Can Statsig Web Analytics replace Google Analytics for tracking traffic sources and detailed metrics?

Date of slack thread: 7/19/24

Anonymous: I’m curious about web analytics, and if it could replace Google Analytics for my site. Documentation seems sparse. Where can I find more detailed info? Documentation, feature lists, a roadmap would be really helpful. One thing I’d like to do is keep track of traffic sources (what site brought the user to my site), and I’d like to know if that’s built in like it is with GA, or if I’d need to implement that myself.

Anonymous: If it’s not on the roadmap, I’d like to suggest the ability to automatically segment users by traffic source. Perhaps this could be done using referer-parser

Vijaye (Statsig): You can definitely identify and track traffic sources. Check out metrics explorer and you can filter page-views based on referrer, utm-campaigns and more. You can then grab those users and do whatever you want with it. You can’t in real-time use them in gate targeting but you can solve that by putting a flag in local storage, and then using it to target.
